Pet Parents: What You Need to Know

We’re honored that you trust us to care for your pet. So we can work together as efficiently as possible for your pet’s health and well-being, here’s some information that can help us both:

How to Make an Appointment

While a referral from your primary care veterinarian is not required, it is always preferred so that together, we can work as a health care team.

  1. Have your veterinarian complete a referral request (this form must be completed by your pet’s veterinarian).
  2. Ask your veterinarian’s office to email your pet’s medical records and any X-ray links directly to you.
  3. Please forward those records to our office.

Completing these steps is the quickest way to ensure we receive everything needed before your appointment.

Our team will then contact you to set up the appointment. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation directly, please call us at 804.368.6848. We’re here to help.

Before Your Appointment

Please complete our new patient information form in advance so we have all the information we need to deliver the best possible care to your pet.

Also, our team will let you know if your pet needs to fast before your appointment.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

Please bring all the medications and any prescription food that your pet is currently receiving.

If we need you to bring anything else, we’ll let you know ahead of time.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your pet’s initial consultation will include a thorough hands-on neurological examination, then the neurologist will discuss his findings and recommended next steps. This typically involves consideration for advanced testing such as an MRI; however, it could involve a more conservative approach with a trial of medications.

We’ll discuss the plan and related costs of care and take the time to answer any questions you may have. Please allow at least an hour for this first appointment.

Paying for Care

For your convenience, Independence Veterinary Neurology accepts the following methods of payment:

Pet Health Insurance

Pet health insurance can help offset the cost of care. Plans vary widely, so please investigate your options carefully. Please note that all providers require insurance to be in place prior to need.
